Bronco RTR is built for speed on loose ground. That narrows who should buy it.

What Ford and RTR changed—and why

Bronco RTR starts with the Big Bend model, but the engineering brief came from high-speed desert driving rather than slow rock work. Ford selected the four-door body, 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, and 10-speed automatic. The reason it gives is weight: less mass over the front axle helps the vehicle stay lighter on sand and change direction more readily.

The engine also gets the 1,000-watt cooling fan used by Bronco Raptor and a software-operated anti-lag system intended to keep the turbo ready when the driver gets back into the throttle. That is unusually specific hardware for this price position in the Bronco family. It also tells you what RTR is not trying to be. A buyer focused on quiet commuting, maximum luxury, or low-speed technical crawling should compare other Broncos before assuming the newest edition is automatically the best one.

The standard truck may be the smarter RTR

Standard 33-inch tires are paired with a high-clearance, wide-track suspension, Bilstein shocks, rock rings, and RTR Evo 6 wheels. That combination is new for Bronco, according to Ford. It preserves the RTR idea without immediately adding the largest tire and damper package. On pavement, smaller tires generally make less of a demand on step-in height, replacement cost, and the space around the vehicle; the actual ride and noise still need a test drive.

The available Sasquatch package changes the proposition. Ford says it adds 35-inch tires and HOSS 3.0 suspension with FOX internal-bypass dampers. That is the box to consider for larger impacts and harder use, not a box to check because 35 is a bigger number than 33. Ask what the package does to price, overall height, spare-tire weight, and everyday road manners once final ordering information is available.

Fast travel on loose surfaces needs room, visibility, legal access, and judgment. Forest roads can carry logging traffic, washouts, dust, cyclists, and someone coming the other direction. Seasonal gates and fire restrictions also change. Bronco RTR's desert focus is most relevant when you have access to an open area suited to that kind of driving; it is not a reason to treat a narrow public road like a closed course.

For the trip home, look past the Hyper Lime accents and try the ordinary things: front-seat comfort, rear-door access, tire noise on I-5, cargo placement with the swing gate open, and outward visibility in Medford traffic. Ford has shown heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, RTR-specific cabin graphics, and Co-Pilot360 technology, but final pricing and the complete 2027 order guide were not published when this page was checked.
